Robyn Scutt says her husband Brian ignored her plea to stop driving days before he crashed his ute, sparking a fatal cafe explosion in Ravenshoe.
The wife of a man who crashed his ute and sparked an explosion at a cafe in Far North Queensland has told an inquest she warned her husband that if he continued to drive he"might kill someone".Robyn Scutt says her husband"didn't like to be told what to do"Cattleman Brian Scutt is believed to have had a seizure while behind the wheel of his four-wheel drive shortly before he drove into two gas bottles at the back of the Serves You Right Cafe at Ravenshoe, west of Cairns, in June 2015.
A massive fireball killed two women and injured 20 others, with many of them suffering serious burns. An inquest in Cairns examining the tragedy has heard Mr Scutt — who died of illness last year — had a long history of convulsive seizures and was told many times by medical authorities not to drive. His wife of 25 years, Robyn Scutt, told the inquest she spoke to her husband several times about giving up driving, something"he loved to do", just days before the crash. "Three days before the accident I had a sit-down talk with him and said, 'Look Brian, I'm really concerned about you driving and I'm concerned you might kill somebody'," Ms Scutt said."Pretty much the whole marriage he would do what he wanted.
