Anthony Albanese has avoided answering follow-up questions on his personal property portfolio, raising the pension and Tanya Plibersek’s campaign absence as he told reporters: “you only get one”.

Mr Albanese on Wednesday spruiked the Opposition’s plan for economic growth and argued it would not add to “inflationary pressures” following the RBA’s cash rate hike during a press conference in the marginal Liberal-held seat of Chisholm in Melbourne.

Mr Albanese instead answered the second part of the reporter’s question on Premier Daniel Andrews, without touching the part about his investment properties. “Well, we’re here today to talk about education which is my portfolio and I’ve been travelling around the country working very hard for a Labor win,” Ms Plibersek said.

Both Labor and the Coalition government have pledged to ease cost of living pressures on 900,000 pensioners by freezing the deeming rate to ensure pension payments are not reduced as a result of higher earnings.
