A 26-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering serious harm after allegedly using a blunt weapon to assault a young child.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with a single count of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering serious harm over the incident.NT Police Assistant Commissioner Michael White said the Royal Flying Doctor Service was called in to medevac the child to receive care in Adelaide. "That young child has sadly been conveyed to the Women's and Children's Hospital due to the serious injuries they have received," he said.

Assistant Commissioner White would not comment on the weapon nor the age of the child, except to say they were below three years of age.
