Young people throw fireworks near families at Belfast play park

'Officers attended and spoke to a number of young people, in the presence of their parents, on their behaviour'

Police investigating reports the misuse of fireworks in West Belfastare "stepping up patrols in the area".

In a statement to Belfast Live, Inspector Moutray of West Belfast Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Officers attended and spoke to a number of young people, in the presence of their parents, on their behaviour."I will add that anyone involved in this type of reckless activity needs to stop and think of the consequences, not just for them, but also how it affects people living in the area.

"We ask parents and guardians to speak to their young people and to know where they are to prevent them from engaging in behaviour which could result in injury or a criminal record. "A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."
