In limited action as a Texas A&M freshman last season, Cy-Fair product LJ Johnson rushed for 76 yards on 21 carries.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M should be set at running back in 2022 despite Isaiah Spiller’s early exit to the NFL. With that proclamation, Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher should find some solid wood around the Bright Football Complex to knock on.
That’s a bit misleading, however, considering the swift Achane is still present and accounted for within the A&M program. Achane is a ballyhooed sprinter on the Aggies track team and expected to make his mark at the NCAA level as a sophomore. So while Achane is taking part in spring drills and accompanying meetings, Fisher vowed “we will not get him hit” on the contact front this March and April.
Spiller’s absence and the hands-off approach to Achane allows youngster LJ Johnson, Amari Daniels and Earnest Crownover to earn plenty of repetitions this spring, so the Aggies should be stocked at the position. Should be — and Fisher knows of what he speaks when he claims a program can never have enough running backs.
