Supporters of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott watch his debate with Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke on Sept. 30 in McAllen.Re: “School vouchers plan bad for Texas,” Opinion, Sept. 28:Pro-voucher ideologues such as Gov. Greg Abbott try to present the issue as choice, but expanding school-voucher programs would cause an even more ruinous turn for our state’s public schools than has already been accomplished by a Republican governor and Republican-dominated Legislature.
Republican politicians have for years sought to undercut our public schools, both intentionally and insidiously, for the purpose of spawning the perception that our public school system is failing. Then when the public school system is sufficiently perceived as a failure, the pro-voucher, largely Republican crowd can come swooping in to save the day.
Kudos to Elena Bruess for the continued coverage of the proposed wastewater treatment plant for the Lennar Homes development at Guajolote Ranch.
