Crimes committed by children aged 10 to 17 shot up more than 20 per cent year-on-year, with more than 23,000 incidents recorded.Young offenders are being driven to commit robberies and car thefts, according to the data. Police say the statistics continue to be driven by opportunistic young offenders targeting predominantly unlocked homes.Almost 100,000 domestic violence incidents across Victoria in the year to June led to a 6.1 per cent jump compared to last year.
"Family incidents and assaults have reached the highest levels in a decade, with a notable rise in aggravated assaults on females and breaches of intervention orders, often accompanied by criminal damage," CSA chief statistician Fiona Dowsley said.Despite the alarming figures, the Crime Statistics Agency stressed that population growth played a role in skewing the results.
