Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Glastonbury 2023, review: Perfect for an easy shimmy and a little cry
For the most part, it was a stand-and-sway sort of set for an audience finding the final day of Glastonbury off to a slow start, but Stevens was wise to include a couple of notable covers in the set. Though he is indisputably a legend, he’s not one that has necessarily crossed generations. The majority of his back catalogue seemed alien to the younger faces in the crowd.
Between songs, Stevens paid tribute to the NHS, saying, “This is the 75th year of the NHS. I must say, I’m one of the lucky ones – it was born only a few months before I was.” The cheer for the “doctors, nurses and people who serve in this country” was louder than any of his actual songs garnered.
