Mr Zelensky rejects this argument, insisting his forces would be able to overcome those obstacles with a shortage of hardware by far the biggest problem facing Kyiv’s troops.
He has also spoken of his frustration at the way the West has gone about committing support to Ukraine: time and time again, the country’s allies have prevaricated on whether or not to answer Kyiv’s demands, only to do so weeks or months after they were made. He will want Mr Sunak to take a lead in being proactive rather than reactive on this front.
