Four-year-old Zucchero returns to racing after a year-long absence, while trainer John O'Shea targets stakes races with three of his top contenders.

A four-year-old racehorse named Zucchero , who hasn't competed in nearly a year, is poised to make a triumphant return to the racetrack at Monday's Muswellbrook meeting. Zucchero 's last start was a close but unsuccessful attempt in a Super Maiden Hcp over a mile at Newcastle last February. This marked his third and final race for the Hawkes stable in Sydney before he was sidelined.

However, if the adage 'all good things come to those who wait' holds true, his comeback with the Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich team at Scone could be the catalyst for victory. Now gelded and carefully trained in the Upper Hunter, Zucchero will make his return in a modest Maiden Plate over 1280m. As the son of sire Dundeel and a Snitzel mare, Zucchero has shown promise with two encouraging 900m trials and is expected to progress rapidly throughout this late summer and autumn racing season. Before that, the stable's up-and-coming three-year-old, Dale, with Hollywood connections, will aim for another step forward in a Benchmark 58 Hcp over 1500m to kick off the meeting. All going well, Dale has the opportunity to redeem himself for a frustrating second-place finish at this track two starts back, where a late surge fell just short by a nose. He regained his momentum with a convincing maiden victory at Tamworth over a mile and is likely to be directed towards a suitable race during the Scone carnival in May if he can secure back-to-back wins on an 11-day turnaround.Meanwhile, Randwick trainer John O'Shea is looking to achieve an interstate stakes double this Saturday with three of his top contenders. O'Shea, who celebrated consecutive wins for the promising four-year-old Yorkshire at Rosehill on Saturday, will field Linebacker and Snow In May in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds at Randwick. O'Shea anticipates Snow In May will then target the Group 1 Surround Stakes three weeks later. He expects Linebacker to perform well, noting his encouraging first-up effort when finishing fourth over 1200m in the Run To The Rose. O'Shea's third runner, Schwarz, will compete in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield. Schwarz won the Group 2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on January 24.
