Council CCTV footage has captured the moment a hoon driver lost control during a drift and crashed into the more than 90-year-old art deco Roxy Theatre in the New South Wales town of Leeton.

"In the crash the vehicle sustained significant injury rending it unable to be driven," New South Wales Police said in a written statement.Extensive renovations were being done to the art-deco building, and had almost been completed. "It could have been a lot worse, but all the same just really disappointed, we're so close to finishing."

"All of it can be fixed, but it will take time … because it is heritage, it's not something you can buy off the shelf," she said.The theatre has been owned by the Leeton Shire Council since 1977, with the Save the Roxy Committee contributing $27,000 at the time to purchase the building.
