Moto GP: Francesco Bagnaia has taken the lead of the Championship standings after a disaster crash in Germany for Jorge Martin
After a four-week mid-season break that came after just two Grands Prix since the start of June, the final 11 rounds of the 2024 season will take place over just 16 weekends, including the flyaway triple-header that features Australia in October.
Martin’s sprint prowess – he’s won 13 of the 28 short-form races since they debuted on the calendar at the start of 2023 – will continue to be his advantage over Bagnaia, and should keep the fight close, if not all the way to Valencia. So where does the drought break? Round three at his beloved COTA in Austin came too early, and a practice crash in Germany left him with a fractured hand and heavily bruised ribs at the Sachsenring last time out … and he still came through from 13th on the grid to second.
“On track it’s different, you have to fight with your teammate,” he said in an interview with TNT Sports.Speaking at Ducati’s Race of Champions event last weekend in Misano, Marquez struck a cautious, respectful tone.
