The off-duty lifesaver used an old boogie board to save four young girls and their dads from treacherous surf.
An off-duty surf lifesaving volunteer is being recognised for saving six people with a boogie board while on holiday.
The Sydney finance manager was with friends and family at the unpatrolled Blueys Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast when she realised the specks in the ocean were six people in trouble."With the amount of water that was moving in, there was a massive trench that sucked water out to the side and the rips were flowing really quickly."
"My main thought was to get Audrey to safety. When Nallah reached us, I remember saying, 'Just get Audrey to the sandbank'.""I grabbed the father by the top of the hair, I just yanked his head up out of the water and popped him on the back of the board," she said.Ms Hamilton said successive waves dragged them away from the safety of the sandbar."I thought to myself, no matter what happens, even if I need to let go, I need to get these people onto a sandbank.
The story reached the Council for the Australian Bravery Decorations, which chose her for a Commendation for Brave Conduct award.Ms Hamilton said she will make sure to pack a one-piece swimsuit with her on the next holiday, in case the time comes for her to jump to the rescue again."My top was almost falling off , I was in a very small bikini.
