AFL: David King believes that if Clayton Oliver doesn't recapture his best form, the Demons won't be contenders in 2024.

In the wake of criticism the Demons focused too heavily on contest and lacked nous moving the ball inside 50, they’ve tweaked their style this year.on Wednesday night, Melbourne’s 2023 matches featured a two-team average of 282 contested possessions per game. But that has dropped to 260 this year. Subsequently, the Dees’ contested possession differential has dropped from +10 in 2023 to -2 in 2024.
“He’s the one. If Oliver doesn’t correct, they can’t win it, they can’t finish top four and the era will be over, because you’ll lose your aura and good luck next year.”you can watch the vision in our video player at the stop of our story Oliver’s inability to impact at stoppage is evident by his first-possession-to-clearance rate of 65 per cent – ranked 49th of the top 50 AFL clearance winners this year.
