Senna Agius always envisioned that he would win a world championship motorcycle Grand Prix. But the 20-year-old New South Welshman never imagined his first chance to make that dream a reality would look quite like this.In late May at Silverstone in MotoGP’s intermediate-level Moto2 category, Agius – along with Spain ’s Aron Canet, Brazilian Diogo Moreira and Colombian rookie David Alonso – broke away from the pack with four laps left, one of them set to miss the British Grand Prix podium.
Weeks after that breakthrough success, the rider tabbed as Jack Miller’s natural successor to fly the Australian flag on the MotoGP grid can’t wipe the smile off his face at the very mention of the word ‘Silverstone’. “I couldn’t imagine what the box was like or the loungeroom back home when I crossed the line. I was a bit teary on the in-lap, and to have my dad there was super special.”Be happy. Stay hungry.
“My performance window last year was a little bit narrow, some track characteristics would suit me better than others. Now, I feel I’m a broader rider. There’s definitely things to improve still just to be a proper podium guy every race, because the level is so high at the front. “This year I’ve stepped up and my teammate is a world championship contender, so between the two of those together, it’s brought the team profile up.
