She wants legislative change, and has joined with ethicists, politicians and other Australians caught in the web of genetic discrimination to campaign for it. I get up, I wait, I have some breakfast, I wait, I get on stage and I try to make them laugh.
"She was starting to look into her family history because she was starting to put the puzzle pieces together," Lancaster says.Now, as she contemplates "grown-up" decisions, such as buying an apartment with Lancaster, the financial risks are hitting home. If Brasier had life insurance, Lancaster would not face a crippling debt if she dies, but without it, his future is uncertain, too.
The federal government is now considering submissions, the bulk of which call for a total ban on life insurance companies using genetic testing to deny or limit coverage.
