AFL: On AFL 360, Gerard Whateley and Mark Robinson declare their confusion over the state of umpiring amid furore over the Essendon vs Geelong game.

AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon says the standard of umpiring is as good as it has ever been, despite a fierce week of public outcry over the state of umpiring.

Watch every game of every round this Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE with no ad-breaks during play on Kayo. New to Kayo?“It’s as good as it’s ever been, the umpiring,” Dillon told reporters in Adelaide on Tuesday. Dillon said the AFL’s focus was on preparing the umpires to put themselves in the best position possible to adjudicate the game.

Dillon believes the unprecedented closeness of the 2024 competition had shone the spotlight on umpiring decisions.“I don’t understand why, but there’s always been a focus on umpiring – I’m pretty old and it has been around for as long as I’ve been around and will continue to be. “If there are umpiring decisions at the end of games, and there’s a real focus on them, then we’re happy to be up.
