In the Kimberley town of Halls Creek, advocates and frontline workers say family violence is a huge problem and more must be done to stop the normalisation of harmful and destructive behaviour.

Indigenous advocates and frontline workers say a significant, culturally appropriate education campaign is needed to change young people's attitudes around violence.The federal government says the Kimberley will be among 14 trial sites for a nation-wide early intervention program targeting young men.

Accounting for population, it's a rate 20 times higher than Bunbury and six times that of Geraldton, the state's two largest regional cities. The refuge's 13 beds are in high demand and support services such as alcohol counselling are often more than three hours' drive away. "Maybe implementing it as one of the programs at school for the young kids to start learning and seeing what they're behaviour will look like when they get older.

The court heard Dobbs grew up in an environment of domestic violence and substance abuse before he was removed from his parents' care. The coroner found this and other dire social-economic circumstances contributed to young lives in the outback town being cut short by suicide.Eva Johnson lives in the Indigenous community of Mardiwah Loop on the outskirts of Halls Creek and is on the women's shelter board.The Jaru woman urged those designing such programs to consult deeply."Everything can be done in the community because you have places to go on country and there's places men can only go and women can only go.
