Ismaili mourners observed the solemn occasion with chants and bell ringing as his body, draped in a white shroud, was transported in a van. They carried the coffin to a waiting yacht on the Nile River, signifying the journey towards his final resting place. \Formalized as Aga Khan IV, Prince Karim was the 49th hereditary imam of the Shiite Ismaili Muslims. He was renowned as a billionaire philanthropist and spiritual leader, passing away peacefully at the age of 88. Ismailis have historically resided in Iran, Syria, and South Asia, later expanding their presence to East Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East, and more recently, Europe, North America, and Australia. They consider it their religious duty to contribute up to 12.5 percent of their income to the Aga Khan as their steward. \The Aga Khan is revered by his followers as a direct descendant of the Prophet Mohammed and holds a position akin to a head of state. The governor of Aswan province warmly welcomed Prince Karim's family at the province's airport on Saturday. Major General Ismail Kamal revealed, 'When his will was opened, it was found that he had requested to be buried in Aswan near his grandfather, Sultan Muhammad Shah, and his grandmother, Om Habiba.' Prince Karim, who died at 88, received the title of 'His Highness' from Queen Elizabeth II in July 1957, two weeks after his grandfather, the Aga Khan III, designated him as the heir to the family's 1,300-year-old dynasty as the leader of the Ismaili Muslim sect.
