Lebanese people are coming together to help house and feed the 1.2 million displaced people in Lebanon, as the country marks 30 days of war. From Australia to the heart of Beirut, they're uniting together to help the country and its people.
"Let me find somewhere safe to talk," Jad Assi in Beirut said in a text message."That one was really close," he said, after we managed to connect on the call.
He added that the country had been in chaos since the recent war erupted, where Israel struck parts of Beirut, south Lebanon, and the Beqaa Valley, killing more than 2,500 people and injuring thousands more. But Jad isn't one to turn quickly to grief. He is focusing on helping others, joining 35 local social media influencers from different religious backgrounds in raising funds to provide shelter, feed, and clothe the displaced. After 30 days of war, they have provided more than 10,000 hot meals, dozens of mattresses, and much-needed medicine to people in need."People lost hope, they've been through too much. Too much pain, too much suffering, too much loss of infrastructure.
With 50 volunteers working all over Lebanon, they're working in the capital, the east and north to help people. Many patrons purchased coffee and lunch to support the fundraising day."One thing that this has shown is the strength in Lebanon in terms of people uniting and coming together and supporting each other," Mr Ajami said.
It's brought back his memories of previous wars, such as the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
