Every taxpayer dollar a politician spends has been hard earned by us.
Rose Jackson's 'oopsy-daisy' mea culpa over Hunter Valley jaunt with Jo Haylen wouldn't cut it in any world but politics
Yes, yes even though it was “within the parliamentary rules” at the time, as we have been told repeatedly. An employee at a mid-sized firm or, worse still a small business, who deems it perfectly acceptable to use a company car to cover off duty winery escapades and lovely weekend getaways. I’ve heard that phrase - let’s move on AKA nothing to see here - many times this week in relation to Ms Haylen’s downfall.
And this:"I did not break the rules, but I acknowledge that that's not the only test here”, referring to the ubiquitous yardstick that the Aussie pub patron, with a schooner/pot/middy in hand, would deem this type of non rule-breaking behaviour an absolute rort were it to come up in conversation. She fatefully told NSW Premier Chris Minns it was the one trip.
When she fronted the media, Ms Jackson said: “Yeah, I got in the car as a passenger. Obviously with the benefit of hindsight, I probably should have said something, but at the time, I didn’t think about it because I was excited by the surprise birthday and surprise lunch.A jargon free, plausible response perhaps but still infuriating and, to be frank, a bit childish. That’s what we pay for and elect them for - their judgement as they make decisions that affect our lives and that of our families.
