LIV Golf and the US state of Louisiana make a call on the tour's event in New Orleans, which was slated for June.
The event was scheduled to be played in June .abc.net.au/news/liv-golf-louisiana-united-states-event-postponed/106619062LIV Golf and the US state of Louisiana have postponed the tour's event in New Orleans that was slated for June .
The official announcement came a day after reports emerged LIV Golf chief executive Scott O'Neil and Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development Susan Bourgeois agreed to postpone the event. It was in the wake of reports Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund was preparing to pull funding from LIV. Rumours of LIV Golf's immediate demise look wide of the mark, but the smoke is only growing thicker as denials from the league's CEO help paint a bleak picture.
"Secretary Bourgeois spoke with LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil on Friday and was informed that the organisation seeks to postpone its June 2026 event in New Orleans to explore a potential event this fall," Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said in a statement. Governor Landry's statement confirmed reports Louisiana had so far paid $US3.2 million of a $US7 million agreement.
"We appreciate LIV's good-faith efforts and look forward to maintaining our partnership as we continue conversations around an event later this year," Landry said. "We are grateful for the work of our local partners and the collaboration that supported this effort. "Its postponement leaves a gap on the 2026 schedule between LIV Golf Andalucia in Spain and LIV Golf UK .
It also marks the first cancelled or postponed tournament since it was reported earlier this month that the Saudi Arabia PIF planned to end its funding for the league it helped launch in 2022.
