Courtney Ugle's mother was the victim in a domestic violence homicide. Now, the AFLW player is working to make change by sharing her story, as the ambassador for a new Aboriginal women's collective where she grew up in WA.

Western Bulldogs midfielder Courtney Ugle has accepted the role of ambassador for the newly formed South West Aboriginal Women's Collective.

Now, the Noongar sports star is trying to break that cycle, returning home to South West WA just weeks before the AFLW season kicks off to tell her story to the next generation.Last week, the Western Bulldogs midfielder spoke to local school children and community leaders about stopping the cycle of domestic violence.

The collective was formed to give a voice to the issues First Nations girls and women face, inspired by the Kimberley Aboriginal Women's Council in Broome. First Nations women in Australia are more than six times more likely to be killed by a current or former partner than the rest of the population. Ms Heart, who also plays for Ugle's old club Carey Park, said she was proud to see her cousin inspiring the next generation.
