Millions of Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs are being recalled due to a potential safety hazard. The polypropylene lids can shrink when exposed to heat, causing them to detach and potentially leading to burns from hot liquids. Consumers are advised to stop using the affected mugs and await a free replacement lid.
A popular travel mug that gained widespread recognition on social media has been issued a recall due to a serious safety concern. The Stanley 1913 Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs are being recalled because the lid could detach, potentially leading to burns. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the polypropylene lids can shrink when exposed to heat and torque.
This shrinkage can cause the lid to come loose during use, posing a risk of burns if hot liquid is present in the cup. The recalled Switchback products include the 12oz mug with identification number 20-01437 and the 16oz mug with number 20-01436. Meanwhile, the recalled Trigger Action products include the 12oz mug with number 20-02033, the 16oz mug with number 20-02030, and the 20oz mug with number 20-02034. These mugs were sold between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2022. They come in various colors, including white, black, and green, and are available in 12oz, 16oz, and 20oz sizes. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reported last month that there have been at least 91 incidents of lids detaching worldwide, resulting in 38 burn injuries. Consumers are urged to immediately stop using these mugs. Stanley 1913 has announced it will provide a free replacement lid for affected mugs. These replacements are expected to be available in early 2025, with further details to be provided by the company at a later date.
