Olympics: Aussie boxer Harry Garside has opened up on his shock loss after crashing out of the tournament to Hungarian Richard Kovacs.
Harry Garside will be urged to continue with his professional boxing career once he returns Down Under, with promoters No Limit convinced the 27-year-old southpaw can still bring “massive” fights to Australia alongside Tim Tszyu and go all the way to a world title himself.
Speaking at the press event, Mazoudier also took aim at Australian boxing bad boy Michael Zerafa, branding his recent talk of impending fights with both Tszyu boys as “insulting”. While there have been suggestions the popular Olympian could retire from the sport after these games, turning his focus to either a television gig or work in the corporate world, No Limit are convinced the fighter can still go all the way to a world title.
“Harry Garside is such a wonderful bloke which is why I wanted to see him medal, why the whole of Australia wanted to see him go all the way to gold.“But unfortunately his opponent was so awkward. Already, Garside has been called out by fellow Australian prospect Ahmed Reda, 21, who posted “Let’s make it happen” to Instagram shortly after the Olympian’s Paris dream collapsed.Only last year, Garside beat the Sydneysider, who has also won his first two fights as a professional, in the final of the Olympic qualifiers.
“It doesn’t matter what Harry Garside chooses to do, he’s going to be a success,” the promoter continued.“That’s why I want him to continue boxing because I know he can still he can be great in the sport.”
