Stuart Kettlewell resigns from Motherwell FC after personal abuse from fans impacts his family. He cites the abuse as the main reason for his departure.
Motherwell Football Club has reluctantly accepted the resignation of manager Stuart Kettlewell following personal abuse from a section of fans. Kettlewell, 40, cited the impact on his family as the primary reason for his departure. He explained that the abuse had become so severe that his family no longer felt comfortable attending matches. As a result, he felt it was in the best interests of his family and himself to step down.
Kettlewell's impressive tenure at Motherwell saw him guide the team to consecutive top-six finishes in the Scottish Premiership. He also played a pivotal role in developing young talent, with several academy graduates and loan players flourishing under his guidance. Notable among them is Lennon Miller, who is expected to command a club-record transfer fee after establishing himself as a key player under Kettlewell. Motherwell's statement acknowledged Kettlewell's exceptional record, including his high win percentage, the highest of any manager since Stuart McCall. They also praised his contribution to the club's financial well-being through player sales. Assistant manager Stephen Frail will take charge of the team for Sunday's match against Celtic, assisted by Jon Obika and Richard Foster.
