David is one of the 380 bowlers in Canberra for the 35-year anniversary edition of the championships.

The event is one of the largest sporting events for people with disabilities in the country, with players competing in various formats, including singles, doubles, and team events. While bowling may just be a casual social outing for some, David Brown knew it would become more than just a hobby.

More than a decade later, Mr Brown is now competing in the National Disability Championships for tenpin bowling. Marty Sammut, the chair of the National Disability Championships, said the game is easily adaptable to any form of ability."Bowling is very inclusive, they can compete against able-bodied competitors just because of the way the tenpin bowling format is," Mr Sammut said.

"The beauty of the ACT is that it's quite central for people to travel, and that's why the ACT is predominantly one of our largest tournaments," Mr Sammut said."The Northern Territory team, for example, they would pay $3,000 to $4,000 in costs in travelling every single year, and that doesn't include the carers that have to come along," Mr Sammut said.
