The fundraiser led by Australian comedian Celeste Barber on Facebook for the NSW Rural Fires Service and bushfire victims has surpassed $25 million since it was started on Friday.Australian comedian Celeste Barber's bushfire appeal has gone global attracting donations from Nicole Kidman, Lizzo, Elle DeGeneres and Keith Urban.Donations have streamed in from across the globe; a glance at the Facebook fundraiser page showed donors from the US, UK, Canada, Czech Republic, New Zealand and France.
Barber, whose family has a property in on NSW's South Coast at Eden, has been sharing updates on the fires to her 6.5 million followers throughout the weekend.On her Instagram story on Sunday afternoon, Barber said she had spoken to people within the RFS who said they were overwhelmed, and that the international support was giving them "a bit of positivity in the terror".
She has said the funds raised, initially for the NSW RFS, will also be distributed to Victoria and South Australia, the Red Cross and families of those killed in the fires, to be decided in consultation with NSW RFS.
