Brentwood field sports complex could begin construction next year
A proposed $30 million field sports complex moved forward with the Brentwood City Council on Tuesday approving the conceptual plan to begin designing the first phase, which includes tournament-level, artificial turf soccer fields.
Muldur added that the goal is to get the first fields up and running and attracting tournaments to the city. The tournaments, in turn, are expected to bring revenues to the city and surrounding businesses, staff has said. A second phase, estimated at $10 million, would include other amenities such as picnic areas, a pickleball court and possibly a bicycle pump track. The final phase, in the detention basin, could include two or three additional natural turf soccer fields.
Vincent Baldwin of the East County Revolution Football Club, a nonprofit soccer group of competitive and recreational soccer, said the club supported the artificial turf fields and overall concept. Another resident on Zoom who said he is retired and on a fixed income suggested that the costs were too high.
