Two separate shootings occurred in Oakland on Thursday night, injuring four people total, authorities said.
Two separate shootings occurred inPolice were alerted to the first shooting, on the 5700 block of Foothill Boulevard, at 10:30 pm. through two ShotSpotter notifications, the Oakland Police Department said. ShotSpotter is a surveillance technology that uses acoustic sensors to detect gunshots, according to its website.
After arriving at the scene, police determined a shooting had occurred, though no victims were present. Authorities declined to disclose what evidence was found that made them suspect gunfire. Officers were notified soon after they arrived at the scene that two people with gunshot wounds had taken themselves to a local hospital, the department said. One person was reported in stable condition and one was in critical condition, OPD said.
Another shooting occurred about 2 miles away, on the 3800 block of Midvale Avenue, at about 11:15 p.m., police said. Officers arrived on the scene and found one person suffering from a gunshot wound who was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. The department was alerted shortly after that a second person had been taken to a local hospital, also in stable condition, with injuries resulting from the same shooting.
