Year 11 students at a Ballarat school have received a meningococcal vaccine that can cost up to $400 thanks to the work of a shattered mum whose daughter died in 2017.
A grieving mother has raised enough money to vaccinate all year 11 students at Phoenix College in Ballarat from meningococcal B.
"I kept thinking, 'She's going to be OK — this doesn't happen to us. This doesn't happen in Australia.'"All teenagers and year-old babies in Australia are able to access vaccines for meningococcal strains A, C, W and Y for free, but the B strain is still optional and it can cost as much as $400 for a child to be fully vaccinated in Victoria.
