The LNP and Labor both made the cheap fares a key election promise after the six-month trial proved popular with commuters following its introduction in August. But it has now been revealed former premier Steven Miles ignored experts who recommended incentives like fare caps and monthly discounts to boost patronage.Miles today denied he ignored their advice. "The trial was very successful. "Queenslanders have made it very clear they're supportive of 50-cent fares and we made a promise to Queenslanders that we would make 50-cent fares permanent," Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg said.When it is made permanent, it will cost Queenslander taxpayers about $300 million a year.
