Thousands of women in Lancashire are affected by the change to State Pension age

The WASPI campaign to end the ‘state pension injustice’ impacting nearly 6,000 West Lancashire women, and millions across the UK, has been backed by most borough councillors in West Lancashire.

Conservative Coun David Westley and a number of other Conservatives said they would leave when the WASPI motion was debated, declaring their interests. Labour Coun Melissa Parlour put forward the motion supporting WASPI on behalf of all Labour councillors. She said Westminster’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality believes the women’s pension situation represents a Category 6 injustice, where payments of £10,000 or more could be justified.

“The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has found that the Department for Work and Pensions was guilty of maladministration. The All Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality for Women has concluded that the impact of DWP maladministration has been as devastating as it is widespread. It believes the case for Category 6 injustice is overwhelming and clear.”
