An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck near Shigatse, Tibet, causing damage to buildings and prompting people to flee outdoors. The quake, which occurred at 9:05 AM on Tuesday, had a depth of 10 kilometers. Nine deaths have been reported, and aftershocks have been recorded. Tremors were felt hundreds of kilometers away in Nepal and the Indian state of Bihar.

“Dingri county and its surrounding areas experienced very strong tremors, and many buildings near the epicentre have collapsed,” state broadcaster CCTV said. Crumbled shop fronts could be seen in a video showing the aftermath from the nearby town of Lhatse, with debris spilling out on to the road.
