Former doubles world No. 1 tennis player Paul McNamee says Ash Barty will be “greatly missed”.
Sporting champion Ash Barty announced her retirement, releasing an emotional video on her Instagram page today. Mr McNamee said Ash Barty has been a role model and ambassador for Australia, pointing to her versatile ability to master tennis surfaces and other sports including cricket and golf. “There’s always this internal fight between being goal-driven and journey-driven as an athlete,” he told Sky News Australia.
“I think, you know, something in her died when she won Wimbledon last year, there’s something very clear about that.”
