A “well resourced, well structured, centre right” independent or minor party candidate in the west and north of Melbourne would cause “real problems” for the Andrews government, according to RedBridge Group Australia Director Simon Welsh.
“I think both have their real challenges here, and I think both will be concerned about it … the teal threat is very real,” he told Sky News Australia.
“In electorates, particularly, so I was thinking of the Victorian election and in those electorates in the east of Melbourne.” Mr Welsh said Health Minister Brad Hazzard’s seat of Wakehurst would be one Liberals would be “worried” about if a teal independent were to run in the state election next year, 2023.
