An internal police email, obtained by the ABC podcast Trace: The Informer, admits that allowing defence barrister Nicola Gobbo to give information about her own clients was 'profoundly wrong'.
ListenThe Court of Appeal last week ruled against a Victoria Police bid to have an officer's name protected by a pseudonym.
"Today will be a challenging day for those directly impacted by the publication of these submissions. I encourage everyone to reach out and show their support for their colleagues, both serving and veteran." Some of these submissions will be critical of Victoria Police and of some serving and former members, and will no doubt generate significant media interest.Colleagues and friends of those people should be assured that we are doing everything we can to support them.
I have also made it clear that the reasons why these failures occurred are primarily organisational and systemic. That is not to say that individuals did not make significant mistakes. Many serving and veteran members involved in the recruitment and handling of Ms Gobbo have accepted their own mistakes and the things that should have been done but were not.
