ANALYSIS: A Supreme Court Justice's death is one reason Trump won in 2016. Here's what RBG's death means in 2020

As news of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death was still reverberating through Washington overnight, a crowd began to gather on the steps of the Supreme Court.

On the day, everyone we spoke to felt Trump's words, combined with Ginsburg's failing health, was the best shot they had at banning abortions once and for all, by overturning the landmark Roe Vs Wade ruling. When asked how they could reconcile questions about Trump's own morality with their adoration for the President, more than one replied: "The Lord works in mysterious ways."Ruth Bader Ginsburg is one of four judges appointed by Democratic presidents.

The Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, and with a confirmation requiring 51 yes votes, the result is already hanging in the balance. The President is clearly in a hurry"We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has already confirmed he will allow a vote on the Senate floor for President Trump's nominee to replace Justice Ginsburg. Two decades after the Supreme Court declared George W Bush the winner against Al Gore, history is much more likely to repeat with six of the nine justices leaning conservative.Trump's base has remained rock solid throughout his presidency and enthusiasm among his core supporters was already maxing out.

Now, with the tables turned, he's promising to do exactly what he argued against at the last election."I want you to use my words against me," he said after Scalia's death.
