Analysis: The NSW government’s stay at home rules leave plenty of room for interpretation
“Can I be absolutely straight about this,” Gladys Berejiklian declared on Wednesday morning. “If you live anywhere in the state you should not be going beyond five kilometres [from home] unless you absolutely have to.”
In the dozen Local Government Areas under the tightest restrictions , it’s strictly five kilometres from home, or only as far as the nearest point where you can source what you need. No further, unless its for authorised work. The end result is another tale of a city divided by socio-economic opportunity and geography. Denizens of the northern beaches can mount an expedition from Palm Beach to Manly for exercise or “goods and services” – a distance of around 30 kilometres – and not breach the stay-at-home order.
