Latest ratings show the ABC’s Melbourne radio audience in the breakfast and mornings slots is around half of what it was a year ago | karlkwin

The ABC’s Melbourne radio audience in the breakfast and mornings slots is around half of what it was a year ago, according to the latest ratings results.

Across the entire week , the average audience for ABC Melbourne has dropped from 68,000 to just 36,000 over the past 12 months. In the same period, the total average audience for all radio broadcasters in the survey has dropped from 554,000 a year ago to 506,000 now. Talk rival 3AW, owned by Nine , has also suffered a decline in both share and audience, but it remains the clear leader in the Melbourne market.

Both 3AW and the ABC saw spikes in listening when Melbourne was in the grip of yet another COVID lockdown a year ago. However, the drop-off post-lockdown has been far less precipitous for the commercial network than it has been for the ABC.Stevenson and Howcroft dropped from an average 145,000 listeners to 134,000 this survey, and are down from 166,000 a year ago, while Mitchell has dropped from 134,000 to 130,000 listeners this survey, and is down from 148,000 this time last year.
