Indigenous actor Natasha Wanganeen revealed she received tragic news hours before she appeared on Monday night’s Q+A where she engaged in a fiery clash with a Liberal MP.

The proud Kaurna Narungga Ngarrindjeri and Nyoongar woman, author and activist, slammed Member for Sturt, James Stevens, on the program after he said British colonisation has been an “overwhelmingly good thing” for society. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Ms Wanganeen revealed why she “looked angry” on the program – which mostly focused on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament – adding she had earlier been told about a death in her family.

“All anyone sees is an angry black woman but what people don’t realise is, my heart was breaking I used all my strength and I contained the heartbreak last night for our people for our brothers for our sisters for my elders and ancestors.” “If you don’t agree with how I handled myself or what I said I’d like to see your composure in the same situation,” she said.“I think European colonisation has been an overwhelmingly good thing for the great society that we live in,” said Mr Stevens.
