Those who have been queueing night and day to pay respects to the Queen as her coffin lies in state at Westminster Hall have criticised a rule that means MPs can skip the queue along with up to four guests.
, many camping out and others heading to London before daylight broke to bag a coveted spot in the line, which runs along the River Thames towards Whitehall.
“If you are on the front benches, if you’re a minister of state, I think fair dues, go and then sort out the fuel crisis,” she toldBut allowing four extra passes for MPs’ guests was “cheeky”, she added. “I think its bit of an abuse of privilege.” They are also allowed to claim up to four “guest passes” which let others skip the queue, although anyone holding a guest pass will have to go through security with the rest of the public.
Members of staff working for the House of Commons or Lords are understood to be eligible for a single guest pass, as well as skipping the queue themselves.
