Ian Pollari says the skills shortage and economic pressures should encourage banks and insurers to consider Accenture’s technology and outsourcing services.

Accenture’s new financial services boss says skills shortages and economic pressure will support demand for the consulting firm’s technology and outsourcing services after it beefed up its banking practice in Australia under local CEO Pete Burns., said banks, insurers and capital markets firms would need to focus on creating “blended workforces” that tap skills in areas such as artificial intelligence and data analytics that a global consultant such as Accenture could provide.

A challenge will be convincing banks to tie themselves to Accenture by outsourcing mission-critical operations such as anti-money laundering compliance, or loan assessment, at a time when some banks are shifting client-facing roles back onshore and in-house to reduce risks and retain control. Westpac, for example, brought back to Australia 1000 jobs from overseas during the pandemic, including in its call centres.

has a strong financial services pedigree, having led the banking, global banking and capital markets at PwC. Mr Pollari joins from KPMG, where he was head of banking and global co-head of fintech.
