The evidence in the case of alleged mushroom cook killer Erin Patterson may not be tested publicly until next year, as her defence team fights to have the matter heard in regional Victoria and not Melbourne.
The court heard three weeks would likely be needed for a committal hearing, where the police case against an accused person is tested in court for the first time, before a magistrate decides if a person will face trial. Magistrate Tim Walsh expressed concern over continuing to hear the matter at the Morwell courthouse as it would be unlikely the regional facility court could cater for the matter until 2025.
Homicide squad detectives allege Patterson also attempted to murder former husband Simon Patterson on at least four separate occasions. Walsh noted Philip Dunn KC was no longer acting for Patterson, with Mandy instead appearing on her behalf.
