The ACT records 810 new cases of COVID-19 as demand for testing reaches unprecedented levels and health authorities announce a number of changes to how they will manage the ongoing pandemic.

The ACT has recorded 810 new cases of COVID-19, as demand for testing remains at unprecedented levels and health authorities announce a number of changes to how they will manage the ongoing pandemic.

The update on case numbers comes after a day of high demand for testing, with three out of the four testing sites operating yesterday reaching capacity for most of the day. "So given all of this, our public health objective is to vaccinate to flatten the curve to reduce pressure on our hospitals, and to protect the most vulnerable vaccination remains the best way to reduce transmission and disease."Due to the increase in COVID-19 transmission, ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said authorities had decided to change the way they managed hospital admissions.

"So for example, a person presenting with a broken bone who happens to have mild COVID-19 will be cared for in a surgical ward based on the need for orthopaedic surgery, subjected to a risk assessment," Ms Stephen-Smith said.
