The Country Fire Service warns of increased smoke in the Adelaide Hills bushfire area as it begins a strategic backburn, while some roads are reopened to local residents.
It is still burning out of control but is currently at watch and act level.
"By doing some controlled burning in that area it just means that fire, when it reaches those areas, can be halted because there won't be any fuel there for those fires to burn through," she said. A statewide smoke advice has also been issued after a number of reports of people experiencing a strong smell of smoke across South Australia.
About 3,000 homes in the Adelaide Hills are still without power and inspectors have restored electricity to parts of Lobethal and Woodside.
