The South Australian government has renationalized Adelaide's train network, ending a four-year period of private operation. The move, which fulfills a key election promise, brings rail services back under direct public control. While the government emphasizes safety improvements and reliability, commuters are awaiting clarity on potential ticket price reductions.

The South Australian government is promising enhanced safety measures and improved reliability, but commuters remain uncertain about the possibility of reduced ticket prices. The change marks a significant shift in the state's rail operations, reversing the privatisation implemented four years ago by the Marshall Liberal Government. Adelaide's train network is back under public ownership, after the State Government followed through on a key election promise.

(Nine) The contract, previously held by French company Keolis Downer, has now been terminated, bringing rail services back under the direct control of the South Australian government. 'Critical public services should be owned by the public operating for the interest of people rather than profits,' Premier Peter Malinauskas said.'That was something that a previous government before I was in Parliament had done...Essential services like public transport should always remain in the hands of the public, but again we need a public transport system that is fit for purpose,' Liberal MP Ben Hood said. The transition brings with it a focus on safety enhancements, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras and the hiring of 31 new Public Service Assistants, particularly for shifts after 7pm—roles that were previously eliminated.Trams services will also be returned to public hands in the middle of the year
