Marc Webb uses his home in the Adelaide Hills to help others dealing with PTSD, but his family has lost their sanctuary in the Cudlee Creek bushfire.

"You've got a defined enemy [in Afghanistan] and you've got people ready, serving, doing a specific job," he said.

"Here, you've got people from CFS [Country Fire Service] rushing across the country to try and come and deal with something that happened unexpectedly."Mr Webb said he expected to have a breakdown at some stage, but was more focused on helping others at the moment."I've also got my assistance dog … he's good there for relief from the anxiety.

"I'm going to crash, I know I'm going to eventually. It's all sort of going to get heavy, but in the meantime, I'm just going to keep pressing on and try and help as many of my neighbours as I can." Although his home was gone, he said his family would rebuild, and look to again provide help to those living with PTSD.

"At the end of the day, everything else is replaceable, it's sad to see it gone, but we'll build again here, we're Adelaide Hills residents now and we'll start again."
