Vic Metro kicked off a big day of footy with an after-the-siren goal to win the Under-18 National Championships by a point after a 50-metre penalty was paid against Vic Country for dissent when the umpire paid a free kick to Vic Metro’s Luke Trainor just inside 50 metres from goal with seconds on the clock.Trainor kicked the goal from the square to give Vic Metro a one-point victory, concluding a dramatic game that had both teams tied at half-time and three-quarter time.
The high octane match under the roof at Marvel Stadium confirmed this was a talented draft crop with the ball flinging from end to end as the lead changed regularly.Vic Metro forward Harry Armstrong was outstanding kicking five goals and taking a huge mark on the wing when the game was in the balance while the light-bodied Jagga Smith showed his class through the middle.
