Port Adelaide’s Jeremy Finlayson has admitted to aiming a homophobic slur at an Essendon player in Friday’s game at Adelaide Oval.

The AFL has confirmed it is investigating a Port Adelaide player after he aimed a homophobic slur at an Essendon opponent.but the victory was soured by allegations of the slur, which was picked up on the on-field umpires’ microphones.In a statement on Saturday night, Port Adelaide confirmed that a “contrite Finlayson made the club aware during the three-quarter time break ” of the incident “and apologised to the victim on the field after the final siren last night”.

The Port statement further added: “Finlayson, who will be counselled by club leaders in the coming days, will provide a statement .The AFL had earlier confirmed it would be investigating Finlayson. “We are aware of an alleged comment made by a Port Adelaide player in last night’s match vs Essendon,” AFL spokesperson Jay Allen said on Saturday night.

It is not yet known who Finalyson directed the comment towards. Fox Footy’s David Zita also reported on the incident during halftime of Saturday night’s game between Geelong and the Bulldogs. “A pretty unsavoury moment in what has been an otherwise absolutely thrilling weekend of football here at Gather Round,” he said.Just as fans come to grips with Gather Round, massive expansion plans have already been revealed and they’re not going down well.An Essendon player has been mercilessly roasted on social media after producing one of the most bizarre blunders the AFL has ever seen.
